Summer is a season full of fun, relaxation, adventure and loads of sunshine. Most times though, the heat makes you want to throw yourself in a pool full cold water. However, you may not always be close to a swimming pool or water body so the next best way to cool your body would be to eat something cooling.
Here are some cool and refreshing things to eat to rejuvenate, hydrate and cool you down in summer:
Ice cream is probably the one thing that is easiest thing to find in summer. It’s cold, sweet and creamy; just the thing to cool your body and let you indulge in a decadent treat.
Watermelon is one of the most hydrating fruits around. Cut up chunks into a big bowl and dig in. It is a great way to stay hydrated and cool down without having to drink water, especially if you’re one of those many who forget to drink water or find it tedious to do so.
These are a fun way to cool down just because they come in so many forms. You can of course buy the sugary, bright coloured ones from the store or you can have some more fun and make some yourself. Get yourself a couple of popsicle sticks and a popsicle mould and let your mind run wild. You can make popsicles with fresh fruit in it and anything else you would want to have in your Popsicle.
A gazpacho is a cold soup made from cold, raw vegetables. This soup, which some classify as a drink, originated in Andalusia, the southern region of Spain. The soup is a favourite during hot summers in Spain and its neighbour Portugal. It is usually made from tomatoes, red peppers, cucumber, garlic, onion, balsamic vinegar and some olive oil. Get online and find a simple gazpacho recipe and see how you like savoury cool down.
Summer is a time when we should spend our time finding adventures and making memories,, thus we should not have to take big chunks of time in our day slaving away in the kitchen when we can eat salads. Cool vegetable salads, fruit salads and even a salad with both in it. Salads can be very filling and often do not require too much work. If you’re planning on having a busy, adventure filled summer; a salad might be what you need to help you keep up your energy and save your time.
Funky Ice Cubes
Ice cubes are really fun to eat and crush in your mouth. However, you do not have to eat just plain old ice cubes. Fill your ice cube tray with your favourite fruit juice and pick one or two to suck on as you head out into the hot summer day.
There’s nothing easier to eat on a summer day than a sandwich. Just find your favourite fillings for a sandwich. You could use cold cuts and cheese, or cucumbers and tomatoes, egg salad or just good old peanut butter and jelly. Hassle free summer eating.
